REVIEW: The Broken Family Band , Please and Thank You
FOR A BAND whose members are famously open for refusing to give up their day jobs, The Broken Family Band's latest album, Please and Thank You, was clearly writtten about life on the road.
Please Yourself, Salivating and Borrowed Time feature the experiences of touring –hotels, homesickness, longing and cheap guitars are among many on-the-road motifs.
Lyrical themes are matched with music – album opener Please Youself has Primal Scream punchlines, Rolling Stones rhythm and cheap lyrics: "I'll never get on, I'll never get on playing a cheap guitar."
Guitars strays betwen spikey indie and rhythm and blues but it's when the band ditch their indie tendencies that The Broken Family Band's
catchy, slightly sleazy rock and roll takes hold.
For a band that refuses to give up its day jobs for life in a tranny van, they do a cracking job of creating it in song.
