Sheffield company scoops law firm of the year title
SHEFFIELD-based legal firm Russell Jones and Walker has been named National Law Firm of the Year by industry bible The Lawyer.
Organisers said the company was 'unstoppable'. It won the category recognising strategic vision, excellent client service, a strong spread of work, evidence of excellence and strong financial performance.
Other successes included a third place for Russell Jones and Walker's Employment Team in Employment Team of the Year, a 'highly recommended' for the firm's Media Libel and Privacy team and runner-up for Samantha Mangwana in Assistant Solicitor of the Year.
Founded in the 1920s as a trade union firm, Russell Jones and Walker is now a multi-disciplinary practice, employing more than 400 people out of ten regional offices.
While retaining a significant practice for trade unions and staff associations, the firm now offers legal assistance through consumer website Your Legal Rights, delivers personal injury compensation services through the Claims Direct brand and outsourced legal services to affinity groups and membership organisations via 4 Legal Solutions.
Lawyers have been involved in some of the UK's most high profile legal cases, leading the UK's largest group litigation order of more than 5,000 compensation claims against retailers who sold 'toxic' sofas imported from China; acting in the City's biggest religious discrimination case to date; a significant maternity discrimination test case and representing Constance Briscoe and Hodder & Stoughton in a libel claim brought by Briscoe's mother following the publication of her acclaimed autobiography 'Ugly.'
Managing partner Neil Kinsella said: "It is fantastic to be recognised for our achievements over the last 12 months but it would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our talented team.
"We have anticipated and responded to changes taking place in the legal marketplace to the benefit of our clients and our business. Our focus has been to find new ways to deliver exceptional, affordable legal services for individuals and organisations."
