Sound of Silent Film

TWO YEARS ago the Silent Film Project decamped to Sheffield from Scunthorpe. Why? "I don't know if you know Scunthorpe…" asks guitarist Tom Dakin, "But there's nowhere to play there."

Sheffield then, is a breath of fresh air for indie-pop janglers The Silent Film Project. "There's lots of people into music here and loads of places to play."

Many such venues are haunted by the not-so-silent Silent Film Project, whose light-hearted, crisp-sounding pop has won the band a plethora of praise-worthy postings on its MySpace page.

Two Days is a vocal led-ditty with jangly guitar, harmonies and a chiming melody. "We take our influences from guitar bands, '70s pop and some '60s stuff such as Simon and Garfunkel," says Dakin.

The band has just released its debut single, Two Days on limited, numbered 7-inch in addition to digital download through KIDS record label – the launchpad label for The Whip and The Wombats.

Last year the band won the nationwide Intel Studio unsigned competition. The victory resulted in the band being snapped up by KIDS.

The band formed in their home town of Scunthorpe, where the band regularly play. "There are some people in Scunthorpe who follow like a football team," says Dakin.

Two Days is available in HMV and through all major digital platforms for download.
