Switched on to recycling needs
A new South Yorkshire recycling firm is claiming to be able to recycle 99 per cent of waste electronic and electrical equipment and says that in 99 per cent of cases it won't cost business customers a penny.
Barnsley-based SR Recycling takes its inspiration from Japan where equipment is taken to pieces rather than recycled after being ground up.
"We have over 35 years of recycling experience in the company and know the value of even the smallest electrical component," says SR's managing director, Simon Robinson.
"Businesses struggle to deal with the raft of legislation around waste but we make it easy and cost effective for them – we make our profit from the waste not the customer."
SR's approach has won it plaudits from South Yorkshire Green Business Club and Sheffield Chamber, which has just used the firm to dispose of half a tonne of IT waste from its Albion House offices.
Sheffield Chamber IT manager, Peter Wright, said: "Disposal of old and broken equipment can be a costly undertaking for companies, as they are charged for each item taken.
"I found SR Recycling's approach refreshing. It highlights the inherent value of waste - what is redundant to us becomes a useful resource to others."
South Yorkshire Green Business Club coordinator, Matt Walker, added: "Many businesses look at environmental legislation as a hindrance to their business and an extra cost. SR Recycling has demonstrated that this is not always the case; a message that the South Yorkshire Green Business Club has been promoting for over 15 years."
