Wetherspoon cheer for Ward's Exchange
PHASE TWO two of the £50 million development of the former Ward's Brewery on Sheffield's Ecclesall Road is now complete and popular hospitality giant JD Wetherspoon is set to open the latest link in its chain of restaurant bars on the site.
Acting on behalf of local developer J F Finnegan, national commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) oversaw the sale of the unit to J D Wetherspoon, which is earmarked for a new 500 capacity venue to be named Sheaf Island on the site of the old Wards Brewery.
LSH, jointly with Crossland Otter Hunt, has been retained by J F Finnegan to market the second phase of the scheme - Wards Exchange.
This phase has delivered a further 5,200 sq ft of retail and restaurant space and Grade A office space ranging from 3,500 sq ft to 32,000 sq ft together with basement car parking.
Matthew Barnsdale, from LSH, said: "The development of the old Ward's site has been a major driver in the regeneration of this part of Ecclesall Road and has created a vibrant hub for business and modern living.
"The excellent location of Wards Exchange, the high quality of the office space combined with the convenience of nearby ancillary services including Waitrose and Greens Health & Fitness Club has generated a lot of interest in the scheme's offering and we have already seen a strong level of enquiries come through."
Philip Ryan, chairman and managing director of J F Finnegan added: "We have already been very successful with the residential arm of the scheme, which is now entirely sold.
"The retail and office space is now looking set to follow this lead with numerous enquiries and big names like J D Weatherspoon taking occupancy and bringing real strength to the local economy."
