Many Sheffield parents are unaware that teenagers will have to stay in education or training until their 18th birthday, under changes due to come into force next year.

A survey carried out by YouGov for education company Kaplan found that 44 per cent of adults in the city and around the Yorkshire region did not know about the change in the law.

The new rule comes into force in September 2015 - the age was raised to 17 last September.
