Richard Mills has the product and his pitching skills aren’t bad either - he raised a seven-figure sum, including a hefty amount from Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, to launch the Swellaway.

He also won Start-Up of the Year at the City Region Awards and Richard says it gave him a cushion of confidence in high pressure situations.

The Swellaway features a neoprene wrap and a box of electronics which draw heat from the body. It can reduce recovery time by 80 per cent, it is claimed.

A human and an equine version are set to be launched after rigorous testing later this year.

Richard said: “Winning the City Region Award certainly helped me - it was a validation that I’d got something good and it wasn’t just a pipe dream.

“And when I was pitching it gave me that little boost and a cushion of confidence that what I was saying had been independently judged.”

Richard went on to win Start-Up of the Year at the national Medilink Awards earlier this month.

The City Region Business Awards return on Thursday, July 2, at Ponds Forge International Sport Centre in Sheffield.

The competition takes the winners of the business awards run by the region’s four Chambers of Commerce - plus the Derbyshire Times newspaper - to reveal the ‘first among winners’.

There are 14 categories and each Chamber is provding a judge.
