School receives cash to expand pupil numbers

A north Derbyshire school is to receive £240,000 from a housing developer to create places for around 12 extra pupils.

The Bolsover School is receiving the funding from Gleeson Homes, which is building homes in the surrounding area.

Councillors negotiate with companies in such situations, seeking funding to ensure schools do not suffer from overcrowding.

Coun Kevin Gillott, county council Cabinet member for children and young people, said: “We are looking at all possible ways to get money into our schools, and working with developers is one way we can do this.

“We want to give every child the best start in life we can, but with severe cuts to our budgets, we are having to rely on funding from elsewhere.”
