Sheffield University has sealed a partnership deal with two leading institutions in Brazil.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Keith Burnett signed the agreement in Rio de Janeiro with the University of Sao Paulo and the University of Porto.
The universities will work closely together on new business ideas, on staff and student exchanges, and on research and teaching.
The initiative is titled the Business Innovation Network, which already includes partners in Chile, Japan, Canada and Saudi Arabia
Sir Keith said: “It is particularly apt that we are making this commitment here in Brazil – a country rightly regarded as a place of tremendous opportunity for business and universities, and an exciting place to develop new global partnerships around innovation.
“It is vital that we develop opportunities for our researchers and students to more easily engage with business around the world so we can translate our expertise and ideas into exciting projects and products in key areas of science and engineering.”
Recent research projects range from medical imaging and biomaterials, to new autonomous systems which could reduce parking costs.
