Sheffield University has been shortlisted for three major awards for the way it supports apprentices, young researchers and overseas students.
One of the nominations is for the university’s apprenticeship scheme based at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Training Centre on the Sheffield-Rotherham border.
In the first year, 250 young people were employed by leading manufacturing companies at the complex.
Young recruits progress through undergraduate studies in engineering up to doctorate and MBA level. The university has also been recognised for leading a campaign to highlight the value of international students to the UK – now backed by more than 100 universities.
And it has been praised for an innovative project which ensures talented young researchers have the very best foundation for their professional careers.
It has been nominated in The Times Higher Education Awards 2014.
