Sheffield businesswoman Sipra Deb has won the Entrepreneurial Asian Woman of Achievement Award for her setting up The Play Arena in the city.

Having founded the family entertainment business in Little London Road, Heeley, 18 months ago, she was honoured at a ceremony in London.

The former microbiologist and High Storrs School teacher, who campaigned to highlight the murder of her father in India eight years ago, was praised for her “drive and passion”.

Judges said: “What is truly special about the Play Arena is it is a profitable, scalable business that is not just for children, but for the whole family which will be hugely influential for communities across the country.”

Sipra, who lives in Millhouses, was chosen from a shortlist of six in the awards, backed by The Royal Bank of Scotland.
