SOUTH Yorkshire businessmen are among some of the richest people in the region, according to a list of Yorkshire’s highest earners.

The wealthy men - two of whom are billionaires - are included in the Sunday Times Rich List, which will be published in full tomorrow.

Eddie and Malcolm Healey, from Sheffield, have topped the rankings for Yorkshire. Eddie, aged 74, developed the Meadowhall centre, making £420 million when he sold his stake in 1999.

Last year he sold a half-share in the Centro shopping centre, near Dusseldorf, netting £593m. His brother, Malcolm, 67, built up and later sold Hygena Kitchens and has invested in ebuyer, an internet retailer with annual sales of about £250m.

Lord Graham Kirkham is third on the list, earning his fortune from the DFS furniture chain which was bought out in 2010 for £500m.

Lord Kirkham, a significant donor to charities with a foundation bearing his name, is up £100m in the list.

Terry Bramall, owner of Bramall Construction, is sixth on this year’s list, with £425m.

He sold his Keepmoat Group to its management in 2007 for £783 million, and used to be a director at Doncaster Rovers.

The Rich List is based on identifiable wealth such as land and property, or significant shares in public companies.

The compilers of the list do not have access to information about bank accounts.
