SHEFFIELD is set to get a new market – running through into the night.
The first event, with an emphasis on local arts, crafts and produce, is due to be held in Barkers Pool on Wednesday, February 8 from 8am until 9pm.
Co-organiser James Peterson, of JC Market Events, said he hoped the market would operate on the second Wednesday of each month, and he had been inspired by four years of living in China.
“Night markets are a way of life over there so when I came back it seemed a good idea to hold a similar event in my home city,” he said.
“Here too many shops and markets still all shut at 5pm or so, so when I made an application to the council, they said fine.”
The market is expected to feature around 50 stalls.
“The concept is that everything sold there will have been made or manufactured by a Sheffield person,” said James.
“We want to provide space for small Sheffield businesses who will be able to showcase their products in a prime location, and on an evening which is already established for late-night shopping.”
Stalls already signed up include outlets selling their own brands of ice cream, chocolate and biscuits.
