Supermarket scheme runs into opposition

A scheme to demolish a Lidl supermarket in Sheffield and to build a replacement has run into opposition.

Council planners say the proposed redevelopment of the store between Castlebeck Avenue and Prince of Wales Road, including the demolition of two semi-detached houses to create a bigger car park, is out of keeping with the character of the area, would cause problems for neighbours and put pedestrians at risk from the traffic.

Councillors decide on Tuesday.
