SEVERAL multi-billion pound manufacturing projects will soon be up for grabs - and they could help pull the economy out of the doldrums, according to Prof Keith Ridgway, head of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre.

Nuclear and renewable energy, oil and gas, high speed rail and the next generation of civil aircraft all offer potentially huge rewards. And UK manufacturers have the technology, and the know-how to take advantage, he said.

Prof Ridgway is the keynote speaker at the Global Manufacturing Festival conference at the AMRC on April 18.

He said: “There’s undoubtedly going to be a lot of competition for this work, including from overseas. We all know it’s a tough market, but UK manufacturers do have the technologies and capabilities they need to win contracts and grow their businesses. At the AMRC, we’re here to help. Together we can make it happen.”
