Retro car fans are being urged to step up a gear for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice by making a bid for this classic 1977 Vauxhall Viva, writes Graham Walker.

Luke didn’t know that Darth Vader was his father, the Queen celebrated her Silver Jubilee and Abba went to number one with Knowing Me Knowing You when this car first appeared.

A 1.3L right-hand drive, with two doors and four seats, it is finished in Amber metallic gold, with deerskin nylon interior.

It petrol driven and has covered just 11,500 miles in its 36 years.

The car was first registered on February 10, 1977 and comes with a valid MOT. It is described by Vauxhall dealer Perrys as being in “excellent condition”.

And they are giving fans a chance to bid for the iconic motor in support of the children’s hospice. The online auction runs until Sunday, January 19.

After 31 bids the current leader was £2,727.

There are also plenty of other great prizes to bid on in this Perrys group wide campaign, including an Apple iPad Air 32GB in silver, Kindle HD Fire 8GB, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, a Ferrari windbreaker, backpack, pitstop watch and a Sir Stirling Moss signed steering wheel, with personal message for the winning bidder

There’s also an England signed shirt, a Barnsley FC 2008 FA CUP signed shirt and spicing it up, there is even a signed photo donated by former Spice Girl Melanie C.

A launch event to promote the Perrys group wide campaign was held at a branch at Barugh Green, Barnsley.

“Please show your support by bidding on the car, on the auction items or simply making a stand alone donation using the links on our site,” said a Perrys spokeswoman.
