Wake Smith LLP has been appointed to protect the case load of a Manchester based Personal Injury firm, Calibre Solicitors Limited, trading as Legal Gateway, after it was placed into administration at the beginning of February.
Joint administrators for Legal Gateway, Harrisons Business Recovery & Insolvency Ltd and Blue Gate Capital stated that changes to the running of personal injury claims and poor trading were behind the collapse of the firm.
As it was not feasible for administrators to continue trading Legal Gateway, Wake Smith LLP was appointed to ensure that all clients were protected and then transferred over to them where possible. These cases will now be handed by Wake Smith LLP’s specialist personal injury team.
From 1st April 2013, personal injury clients will no longer receive 100% of their compensation, together with a ban from the same date on referral fees. This structural change; with the introduction of fixed fees on smaller claims, will lead to a decline in the number of specialist personal injury firms.
Terry Regan, Partner and head of the Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury departments of Wake Smith LLP said: “We are delighted that administrators have the confidence to choose our firm and for us to be able to assist those clients who had been left in the lurch by Legal Gateway’s business failure. Our priority is to ensure that clients are dealt with in an efficient and effective manner and that their claim is handled in a highly professional way by our skilled team. Our many years of experience and expertise means we are well equipped to pursue these claims on behalf of clients with a view to achieving a successful result.”
