Campaigners take fight to save Sheffield pub to council meeting

Members of the Sheffield branch of Campaign for Real Ale, or Camra, will be at the city council's safer and stronger communities scrutiny and policy development committee meeting to contest the decision not to list The University Arms as an asset of community value, or ACV.

They have a long list of questions to put to councillors about the decision, and will be joined by Liberal Democrat members, who called it in for scrutiny.

The pub is threatened with demolition under a University of Sheffield development plan, and Camra wanted to give the community a chance to protect it.

Liberal Democrat councillors have already called for Sheffield’s pubs to be preserved.

A successful ACV application means a pub or any other building cannot be knocked down or converted without planning permission. If it goes on sale, the community has six months to put in an offer.

The meeting begins at 4pm.
