A CAR smashed into the outpatients’ department at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, leaving a hole in the wall of the eye clinic.

Eyewitnesses said a driver came out of the multi-storey car park last Friday afternoon and failed to make the turn.

A passer-by said: “The car smashed into the wall, leaving a massive hole and blowing some of the water pipes on the other side. The driver walked away from the scene but the paramedics checked her over.”

Chris Morley, deputy chief nurse of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, said: “Services at the clinic were not affected, nor was access to the car park or A road.”
