A CARE home nurse who left a dementia patient close to death with a mouthful of vomit has been let off with a warning.

Angela Phiri, aged 49, knew the woman had been ill and was in need of urgent attention but did nothing to help, a hearing was told

She left the patient lying on her back covered in vomit, with some still in her mouth, the Nursing and Midwifery Council ruled.

Phiri was given a two-year caution, but the panel ruled out a ban from nursing because she needs to work to feed her children.

The incident happened at Northfields Nursing Home in Roebuck Road, Crookesmoor, in April 2009.

The panel was told she clocked off her shift at 7.45pm despite knowing that patient B, who suffered severe dementia, had been sick.

Phiri was sacked by owners Palms Row Healthcare for misconduct. The caution remains on her record for two years.
