He has kept things running smoothly behind the scenes for decades - but now it’s time for Montgomery Theatre caretaker Alan McFarlane to take centre stage as he retires after 32 years.
The 68-year-old has lived with his family in a flat within the theatre’s premises throughout his employment. Alan and his wife Christine, 67, are now planning to set up a new home in Bridlington.
Centre manager Margaret Brown said: “It will be really strange without him. Everybody will miss him.”
A farewell celebration is happening at The Roebuck Tavern on Charles Street from 7.30pm on February 21. Old friends and colleagues welcome.
