More than 250,000 people applied to watch stars of children’s television perform in Sheffield, making it the hottest ticket in the country.

Around 2,000 free tickets were available to see the BBC stars perform – but fans applied for a whopping 257,211 tickets in the ballot last month.

The show features a host of popular CBeebies presenters, including: Justin Fletcher, Cat Sandion and Ben Faulks.

Junior members of The Sheffield People’s Theatre will also have a starring role in the production.

Presenter Rebecca Keatley said: “This play is so festive, fun and joyful. If people are looking forward to Christmas they will love this play.”

Presenter Andy Day said: “The songs give you goosebumps, they’re really festive. This will really put people in the Christmas spirit.”

The CBeebies Christmas Show will be a modern twist of the story of The Nutcracker, using music and dance to tell the story of Clara and Fred’s adventure in the Land of Sweets.

Families will be transported to a magical land, where toys come alive and a Christmas dance between the mice and the toys threatens to ruin Christmas.

Kay Benbow, controller of CBeebies, said: “CBeebies continues to set the benchmark for reinventing classic stories in a colourful and fun way for its young viewers.

“This year’s offering, The Nutcracker, promises to showcase music and dance and bring the story to life. I can’t wait for our audiences to enter this magical land and see what’s in store.”

For those who are unable to get a ticket, the performance will also be the highlight of this year’s CBeebies Christmas schedule.
