A COUPLE who met at a dance are celebrating 60 years of marriage - and their family puts their long and happy relationship down to ‘just love’.

Great grandparents Dennis and Madge Ashmore, aged 83 and 81, from Dronfield, remain active by attending weekly activities.

Dennis worked at Rank Xerox while Madge held a variety of jobs, including working in a school kitchen and Debenhams department store, before they bought a fruit and veg shop in 1966. They kept the store going for 12 years.

After having a stroke, Dennis suffers from Vascular Dementia, but Madge is happily his carer. As a result, the couple regularly attend a stroke group in North Wingfield.

The couple also attend an over 60s club every week.

Dennis and Madge have two children, Lynn and Michael, who have children and grandchildren of their own.

Lynn said the family get together regularly.

“It’s a very strong family. When we have Christmas parties there’s a disco and there’s about 80 of us,” she said.

The family were together again to celebrate at the weekend.

Daughter Lynn Batham says that ‘it’s just love’ that has kept them together for so long. The pair met at a dance through groups of friends.
