Staff and children at a Sheffield school are preparing for a fundraising walk to celebrate the life of a former pupil.

Mossbrook School in Norton is organising Madison’s Miles to raise money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity in memory of Madison Trickett.

The eight-year-old, from Wincobank, attended the school from September 2012 until her death in November 2013.

Staff, pupils and parents – past and present – from across the city are invited to take part in the walk in Graves Park, tomorrow.

Participants are urged to wear pink - Madison’s favourite colour - and complete one of two routes around the park.

One is for those who find walking difficult, while the slightly longer option takes about 40 minutes to complete.

Headteacher Dean Linkhorn said: “Madison was a happy girl who enjoyed everything about life and she would have been thrilled to see people turn out for this walk in her honour.

“Sheffield Children’s Hospital provided some of her care and it helps many of our current pupils, so this invaluable local facility is very close to our hearts.

“As children come to our school from across the city, it is rare we can get together in a social setting.

“This makes our fundraising walk even more significant and we are looking forward to it enormously.”

Mossbrook School has 84 pupils ranging in age from four to 11.

Most have autism spectrum disorders and severe learning difficulties.

Some also have physical needs and regular visits from health professionals are arranged, along with support teachers for children who are visually or hearing impaired.

Entry to Madison’s Miles costs £5 per family.

Participants are asked to meet outside the Rose Garden Café in Graves Park from 10.30am for an 11am start.
