SHEFFIELD is aiming to generate investment and jobs through a £1.1m programme designed to boost the private sector. Support is being offered for high growth businesses already in the city and to attract inward investment.
The council is tapping into the Sector Growth Enhancement Programme, largely funded by Europe. SouthYorkshire is getting £3.4m.
Cabinet member Ian Auckland said: “So far Sheffield has weathered the economic storm fairly well but we must do everything we can to make sure that our city is in good economic shape and ready to take advantage of any upturn.
“As a city we are too reliant on the public sector and we are working to redress the balance, to increase private sector jobs, focusing on those industries that will help us to maintain and develop further a diverse and sustainable economy.”
