Summer is barely over, yet it’s time to claim Winter Fuel Payments.
More than 13 million older people nationally are entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment each year - including tens of thousands in South Yorkshire.
The majority of eligible people will receive payments automatically without the need to make a claim. In June and July this year, the Department for Work and Pensions wrote to those people who will reach the qualifying age this year, and asked them to fill in a claim form. The qualifying age is defined as people who were born on or before January 5, 1951.
Claims received by next Friday, September 23, should pay out before Christmas.
Winter Fuel Payments are paid at two household rates for people of different ages.
