Favourite Things: Home city of Sheffield is filled with fond memories for artist
Gerry Kersey, artist and local broadcaster, was born in Shiregreen and has lived most of his life in Sheffield. He has a passion for the city and its countryside and parks. Educated at Woolley Wood, Hatfield House Lane and Firth Park Grammar schools, Gerry started work as a wages clerk at Hadfield’s East Hecla Works before it became Meadowhall. After National Service he worked in advertising for Stanley D. Dickson, Cintride Ltd and Stanley Tools before becoming a broadcaster with Radio Sheffield and Radio Hallam. Gerry has been a member of Hallam Art Group for 27 years and will be showing some of his acrylic pictures of local scenes at its exhibition at the Botanical Gardens this weekend. He is also president of Worrall Male Voice Choir and honorary president of W.O.R.K. Ltd at Ringinglow.
