Sheffield Steelers were looking for their fourth victory of the season over Coventry Blaze tonight. - but they ended up second-best.

Sheffield were up against a side which, while rooted at the bottom of the Elite League table, were beginning to show some potential.

And Blaze showed a sound defensive side and an opportunistic streak to take both points.

There was little between the sides in a goalless first session, livened up at 18:53 when Colton Fretter took a kneeing penalty which upset the home side and incited some bad feeling

at the SkyDome Arena.

Steelers, who had Jeff Legue as a healthy scratch, had the chance to go ahead with a second period penalty shot but top scorer Tyler Mosienko's mazy run at Brian Stewart failed to get the puck past him, the shot hitting the middle of the post.

The Blaze let-off ensured both sides went into the second break without conceding.

After 40 minutes, Steelers had outshot the home side 35-9 - but hadn't executed.

And Coventry punished them by scoring, Russell Cowley beating Marek Pinc at 42.08

Sheffield piled forward but were caught again when Brett Robinson put Coventry two up at 55:46, before closing the game out.
