A £1.91 MILLION refurbishment of Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium will begin at the end of the month and is scheduled to take 40 weeks.
Services will be held at the nearby cemetery chapel at Abbey Lane, which has been upgraded, while three new cremators are installed to meet higher environmental standards in a bigger building. Around six services a day will be held instead of the usual 13.
Cabinet member Andrew Sangar said: “We have discussed the new arrangements with local funeral directors to ensure that a high level of service continues for all those using our facilities.
“We have made special arrangements to ensure the services are conducted as efficiently as possible over the coming months and we will continue to monitor the situation and adapt our ways of working as necessary.”
The council’s also runs a crematorium at City Road.
