The South Yorkshire Police 101 nonemergency number has been restored following technical issues.

The line went down this morning during a nationwide problem which is thought to have affected around 18 forces in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

At around 11.45am South Yorkshire Police tweeted: “The 101 system is down and it is a nationwide problem that we are looking to resolve as soon as possible.”

The issue was said to be with the service provider and did not affect the 999 emergency number.

A Home Office spokesman said: “There was a technical problem affecting the 101 service this morning but we have worked with our supplier, Vodafone, to address this and can now confirm that this issue has been resolved.”
