200 boilers are stolen for scrap

More than 200 council homes in Sheffield have been targeted by boiler thieves in less than a year, costing the council £287,000 to replace them. Many of the thefts - for scrap - have been in Gleadless Valley and Low Edges.

Police say they are working with scrapyards to enforce new legislation making illegal cash payments for scrap. Proof of identification is now required.
