A £5,000 reward was on offer today in the hunt for the killer of a Sheffield dad, attacked on his way home from work.

Simon Holdsworth, aged 36, died from a head injury after being bludgeoned on land off Birley Spa Lane in Hackenthorpe, Sheffield.

Nobody has so far been arrested for the murder.

Now crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers has announced it is to offer a £5,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of Simon’s killer.

Simon, who worked as a paint sprayer, lived with his fiancée Carleen McKeown and their four-year-old son, Tiarnan, in Hackenthorpe.

The couple were due to get married next August - but little Tiarnan spent both his fourth birthday on Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day, without his father.

“This is a heartbreaking time for the family of Simon, who has been taken away from them too soon,” said Gemma Wilson, Crimestoppers’ regional manager for Yorkshire and Humberside, as she announced the reward.

“A son has had his dad taken away, and a fiancée her future husband, while family and friends search for answers as to why.

“Crimestoppers would urge anyone with information to contact the charity anonymously, safe in the knowledge that no-one will ever know you contacted us.”

Simon’s body was found on the morning of Tuesday, December 17, by a member of the public who alerted police.

He was last seen leaving work at FBS Prestige in Intake on Monday, December 16, at about 10.55pm.

He caught a number 120 First bus about five minutes later, from a stop close to The Noah’s Ark pub in Mansfield Road, but he never made it home.

A post-mortem examination found he died from severe head injuries. Police believe a ‘blunt weapon’ was used.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or log on to www.crimestoppers-uk.org and fill in the anonymous online form.

Rewards will be payable for information passed to Crimestoppers only. Information passed to police will not qualify.
