‘High visibility’ police patrols have been mounted after a 34-year-old Chinese student was robbed and sustained facial injuries near the main campus of the University of Sheffield.

He was on Bramwell Street, near the Netherthorpe dual carriageway, when two men demanded his bag.

They punched him and knocked him to the ground, before running off empty handed. The victim needed hospital treatment.

Police, who said it was an isolated incident, described the attackers as Asian and in their 20s. They are appealing for information about the incident, on March 8.
