Lawyers for Sir Cliff Richard have criticised the publication of a letter about police investigations into the veteran singer.

His legal team have written to Home Affairs Committee chairman Keith Vaz MP accusing the committee of causing the singer ‘a further round of unnecessary and extremely damaging media coverage with no due process’.

The select committee published a letter about the South Yorkshire Police sex abuse investigation earlier this week.

In the letter, South Yorkshire Police chief constable David Crompton said the investigation now involves ‘more than one allegation’.

It follows worldwide publicity after the force agreed a deal with the BBC to broadcast a raid on Sir Cliff’s house last summer.

The 74-year-old singer has described the allegations against him as ‘absurd and untrue’.
