A burglar was jailed for six years for the “outrageous” burglary of the Sheffield home of a 95-year-old woman as she read a book in bed.
Anthony Bramall, aged 49, stole jewellery with sentimental value from the property in Beauchief – and twice refused to tell police what he had done with it.
Recorder Michael Hubbard said it was an “outrageous” crime against a vulnerable victim.
“The likelihood is you have curtailed those remaining years of her life as a result of what you have done.”
Bramall, of Longley Hall Grove, Shirecliffe, searched every room except the bedroom because he knew his victim was in there in the raid last October, Sheffield Crown Court heard. He was caught after police found his blood on an ornament.
His defence counsel said his only mitigation was his early guilty plea.
