Hundreds of people are expected to attend a ‘Not In Our Name’ meeting by the British Muslim Youth group in Rotherham town centre tomorrow.

The event is taking place on Saturday in response to the Jay Report, which said many abusers in the town were of Pakistani heritage.

Around 300 people are expected to attend the event at the Town Hall from 2.15pm.

A spokesman for the event said: “This demonstration is designed to send a clear message from the people of Rotherham and Britain, regardless of race or religion – Not In Our Name.”

South Yorkshire Police said additional officers will be on duty ‘to ensure a peaceful event and the safety of local residents and those taking part’.

A spokesman said: “South Yorkshire Police expects everyone taking part in the event to behave appropriately and respect the right of other people to go about their daily lives with a minimum of disruption.”
