A HOUSE was broken into in Sheffield after the occupant left the door open so that their cat could get in and out.

Police said a handbag and jewellery were taken from the property in Grindlow Close, Gleadless Valley.

Inspector Ian Stubbs, of the Woodseats and Gleadless Valley Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “A significant number of burglaries that occur locally are opportunistic where residents leave windows and doors unlocked.

“I would also discourage people from leaving keys in door locks.”

lA police crackdown on burglaries in Low Edges revealed 72 unlocked properties in four days.
