A drug addict who was caught after trying to flee a drugs den through a window has been jailed for two years.

Jusuf Ugas, aged 24, had been smoking cannabis and creating drugs wraps when police officers arrived at the flat in Verdon Street, Burngreave, on Tuesday, September 16, 2014.

Sheffield Crown Court heard officers were looking for another man, but decided to search the flat after smelling cannabis and saw Ugas trying to escape through a window with another man.

James Baird, prosecuting, said: “Police officers attended an address looking for another male.

“They noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from inside and knocked on the door.

“Ugas and another male were seen to be climbing from through a window at the rear of the address and they were detained.”

Officers searched the flat and found digital scales with traces of heroin on and wraps of cocaine and heroin.

Tests found Ugas’ DNA on the wrap of cocaine.

Mr Baird said: “He told police he didn’t live at the flat and simply arrived at 2pm and was smoking cannabis and listening to music.

“He was aware there were others wrapping drugs while he was smoking cannabis and he joined in the wrapping of these drugs.

“He would have received a small discount for his involvement in this matter in relation to the cannabis he received.”

Ugas admitted two offences of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

The court heard Ugas had not been in trouble with police since he was a youth and wanted to move to Belgium with his mum and start working in an internet phone shop with his uncle.

Jailing Ugas for two years, Judge Peter Kelson said: “A message must go out that drugs offending is the scourge of society.

“It has ruined life for everybody and you have taken your part in it.”
