Man denies rape at city club

A man accused of raping a woman at a Sheffield swingers’ club – while he was dressed as Frankenstein-type character Herman Munster and she as a vampire – told a jury he would ‘never force himself on anyone’.

Jeremy Frazer Newsome Smith, aged 45, denies raping the 22-year-old woman in a mirrored room at Attercliffe club La Chambre’s Halloween party last October.

While giving evidence in his defence this week, he told Sheffield Crown Court the sex they had was consensual, and that they got on well.

But prosecutor Charlotte Baines put to Smith that he took her to the mirrored room after they became separated from a group of other people, then raped her.

Smith said: “I absolutely did not. I would never, ever, ever force myself on anybody, I would never do that.”

The trial continues.
