A FOOTBALL fan has been banned from matches for five years for his part in a disturbance on a train after Chesterfield played Swindon in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at Wembley last year.
Gareth Jones, aged 27, of Rosewood Close, Chesterfield, was handed the ban after being convicted of a public order offence on board the train following the game in March.
He has been banned from going to any match - home or away - after a joint application to magistrates by Derbyshire Police and British Transport Police.
Derbyshire Police football intelligence officer PC Allan Guy said: “Let this send a clear message to anyone who engages in football related disorder. The police will use all legislation necessary to deter those who are intent on causing problems at any fixture either home or away.”
