A POLICE checkpoint set up in Eckington led to 49 drivers and passengers getting fixed penalty notices for not wearing their seatbelts.
Nine drivers were caught driving while using their mobile phones and another 15 were found to have number plate defects.
Officers from Derbyshire Police joined forces with the Casualty Reduction and Enforcement Support Team and the Vehicle Operator Services Agency, as well as HM Revenue and Customs to run the operation.
Sergeant Tony Klenczar, of the Eckington Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The main aim is to remind motorists of their responsibilities, this includes making sure their vehicles are roadworthy, to driving carefully and with respect for local speed limits.
“Road safety is something that affects everyone.”
