A man found murdered on grassland near a Sheffield primary school was named yesterday (Wednesday) as 36-year-old Simon Holdsworth.
Mr Holdsworth, who lived in the Hackenthorpe area and worked for a spray painting company in Intake, died from head injuries.
His body was found off Birley Spa Lane, near Rainbow Forge Primary, at about 6.30am on Tuesday.
Temporary Det Supt Phil Etheridge said: “This was a horrendous attack on a much-loved and popular man.”
Police said they were unaware of a motive and are appealing for information.
They are trying to establish Mr Holdsworth’s movements after he finished work at around 10.55pm on Monday.
It is believed he caught the number 120 First Bus at around 11pm, from a stop near the Noah’s Ark pub in Mansfield Road. Usually, he would have got off the bus around 10 minutes later, near the Hogs Head pub in Birley Spa Lane.
But he never made it home.
