DETECTIVES are trying to trace a mystery couple who could hold vital clues for officers investigating the death of Doncaster schoolgirl Casey Kearney.

Police investigating the fatal stabbing of the 13-year-old McAuley School pupil, from Rossington, have released closed circuit television pictures of two people they want to speak to as potential witnesses. Casey died in the Doncaster Royal Infirmary on the evening of Tuesday, February 14, after she was found with stab wounds in Elmfield Park, Doncaster, at about 1.15pm that day.

Now police have put out an appeal for a number of people to come forward who they believe may be able to help them. The two people shown on CCTV are a man and a woman. The man is described as white, about 6ft with brown unkempt hair and possibly in his early 20s. He was wearing light blue jeans, unlaced brown ankle boots. He may have had a bag.

He was with an older woman, who is described as white, about 5ft 2in and slim. She has grey or blonde straight hair and was wearing a black knee-length padded coat, black trousers worn over black boots, with a small heel.

They walked from the direction of the Salutation Pub towards Elmfield Park.

They had previously walked towards town from the direction of the park at about noon.

Police also want to trace a teenage couple who sat on a bench on the left hand side path within Elmfield Park.
