Police hunt Sheffield ‘fence’ conmen

DETECTIVES are investigating a distraction burglary where a man was conned by a ‘salesman’ selling fencing.

Officers said that while the man was chatting to the doorstep trader in his garden, somebody else sneaked into his house on Cairns Road, Beighton, and stole money.

The salesman was white, aged in his late 30s, about 5ft 7in and of a medium build with dark hair and stubble.

A police spokeswoman said: “It is suspected the alleged offender claimed to be selling garden fencing and spoke with the complainant in his back garden, while another offender allegedly entered the property and stole a quantity of money.”

n Witnesses to the incident, on Thursday, March 14, between 1pm and 2pm, should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
