Police hailed their operation to maintain public order during a rally in the Sheffield Lane Top area by the English Defence League as a success.
They estimated 400 members of the EDL were at the demonstration - and around 250 members of the group Unite Against Fascism.
There were two arrests for drunk and disorderly, one for criminal damage to a police vehicle and one for possession of cannabis.
Hundreds of extra police were drafted in, at a total cost of around £600,000, as the EDL protested against any more mosques in the area.
Supt Colin McFarlane said the event passed “without serious disorder or injury”.
