A pub landlord beaten with baseball bats by a masked gang is mystified why he was targeted.

Roger Cheetham, aged 43, of The Bassett in Fox Hill, was not robbed, despite carrying cash, a phone and keys to the pub.

He sustained fractures to his legs, ankles, hands and face as he walked his dog near the pub and expects to spend at least four months in hospital.

“I have no idea why this has happened,” he said. “It had been a routine, uneventful night at the pub and I had taken the dog out as usual. It was a motiveless and unprovoked attack.”

Roger is appealing for information to help the police. “It seems from my experience to be the Fox Hill way that nobody speaks or name names. But I get the feeling that someone hasn’t gone to the trouble of getting disguises just for one targeted attack, and that this is going to happen again.”
