THREE robbers hid in a bush on a Sheffield street and pounced on a man carrying £6,000 in takings from a Sheffield working men’s club.

They struck 61-year-old Dave Marshall over the head with a baseball bat shortly after he left Southey Green Working Men’s Club to bank last weekend’s takings.

He had just pulled up on Pollard Crescent and was getting out of his car to get into his friend’s when he was approached from behind and struck over the head.

The trio responsible for the robbery, at 1pm on Monday, fled with a cash bag Mr Marshall was carrying and a police hunt is now under way.

Mr Marshall, who has been the club secretary for seven years, said it appeared to be a ‘pre-planned’ strike.

“I was in shock at the time that somebody would whack me over the head in broad daylight and that they knew I was going to drop my car off and get into my friend’s to go to the bank that way,” he said.

“I’m not the one who normally does the banking and am really annoyed that we got robbed because it seems to be pre-planned to me.

“How would they know to hide in the bushes where they were? How did they know I was dropping my car off?

“It seems that somebody knew I was going to the bank that day and what time I had set off.”

He said the robbery was over in five seconds but he was still suffering the repercussions.

“In five seconds it was done and dusted but I am still having flashbacks now and thinking ‘what if?’ and what could have happened,” he added.

Mr Marshall said he heard someone ‘screaming’ at him as he was getting out of his car and was hit as he turned round.

He said as the robbers fled towards Galsworthy Road they struck his vehicle and his friend’s car.
