DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a Sheffield man stabbed to death on a night out in the city have spoken of their ‘frustration and disappointment’ that witnesses to the attack have remained silent for over a year.

Joshua Green, aged 27, of Manor Park, was killed when he was attacked on the dancefloor at the Stars and Mayfair function suite on Queens Road on New Year’s Day 2012.

He had been on a New Year’s Eve night out when he called at the venue and a disturbance broke out.

Joshua sustained a fatal stab wound to his neck.

Four men aged between 18 and 22 years old were arrested over his death - two of whom were charged with other offences on the night of the incident, and two who were released without charge.

South Yorkshire Police issued a renewed appeal for information over the stabbing on the one-year anniversary of Joshua’s death, but to date nobody new has come forward.

There were around 500 revellers in the function suite on the night of the attack.

Police have CCTV footage of everyone in the venue on the night of the attack, but have not yet identified everyone there.

Detective Superintendent Terry Mann said: “South Yorkshire Police remain fully committed to finding the killer of Joshua Green, but we have been left frustrated and disappointed with some individuals present that night who have chosen to remain silent.

“Despite the numbers present in the club in a relatively confined space, there has not been many willing witnesses helping the police.

“Despite media appeals from Joshua’s mother and girlfriend, witnesses have not voluntarily come forward, leaving an enormous task for the investigation team to identify them.

“We do have CCTV footage of every person entering the club that night, and work is still needed to identify everyone present.”

Anyone with information about the murder should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
