Sir Cliff Richard will miss Wimbledon for the first time in 20 years as he continues to battle historic claims of underage sexual abuse alleged to have taken place in Sheffield.

The singer will watch the tournament on television in Portugal as he prepares for his next tour, his spokesman said.

It has been reported one of Sir Cliff’s accusers has apparently been told by South Yorkshire Police that they won’t be pursuing his case against the 74-year-old pop veteran.

Speaking about Wimbledon, Sir Cliff’s spokesman said: “He has already told the club that he will not be at the championships, but as a tennis fan, and Wimbledon member, he will be watching the tournament on television from Portugal.”

Police raided Sir Cliff’s home last August.
