A MAN who had sex with an under-age girl was arrested after he threatened to distribute explicit nude photographs of her, a court heard.
Jack Houlton, aged 22, took the snaps on his mobile and told the girl he was going to show them to her schoolfriends and post them on her Facebook site after they split up.
The alarmed 15-year-old went to the police and Houlton was arrested.
Fiona Swain, prosecuting at Sheffield Crown Court, said the couple had an eight-month long sexual affair and Houlton knew the girl was under age.
Houlton told police he was aware the girl was 15 and they began having sex soon after going out together.
“He knew it was wrong,” said Mrs Swain.
Houlton told officers he had taken several photos of his girlfriend but only saved two.
He admitted telling the girl he was going to post the pictures on her Facebook page but said it was only a joke.
He threatened to scatter the photos about in her school.
Houlton, of Lister Avenue, Rawmarsh, Rotherham, who has convictions for possessing an imitation firearm and burglary and has served four custodial terms, admitted three offences of sexual activity with a child and one of distributing indecent images.
Dermot Hughes, defending him, said his relationship with the girl was consensual and she had never complained about the relationship.
Houlton had no intention of distributing the images which were posed at the girl’s request.
Judge Alan Goldsack jailed Houlton for 16 months telling him: “You knew perfectly well that having sex with a girl under 16 was against the law. The law is there to protect young girls from themselves as well as young men.”
“You took photos of her on your phone and it was the fact she discovered you were thinking of distributing them on Facebook or to schoolfriends that caused her to put the matter in the hands of the police, indicating perhaps where her priorities lie.”
Houlton was made the subject of a Sex Offenders Prevention Order and must not contact the girl.
